Dry Needling

Dry needling is a therapeutic technique used to treat muscle pain and myofascial pain syndromes. It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into trigger points—hyperirritable spots in muscle tissue that can refer pain to other areas.

Dry needling can be an effective component of a comprehensive treatment plan for muscle pain, especially when combined with other modalities like physical therapy or exercise.

Nervous System Regulation

Nervous system regulation techniques are approaches used to help balance and optimize the functioning of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which controls involuntary bodily functions. These techniques aim to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve overall well-being.

T They can be practiced individually or combined as part of a holistic approach to mental and physical health.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping

Cupping can help alleviate muscle tension and reduce muscle pain. The suction from the cups can also enhance blood flow to the treated areas, promoting healing and reducing inflammation.

Cupping can also be deeply relaxing experience, which can help reduce stress and anxiety levels..

We also use cupping to support digestive health by stimulating the gastrointestinal system.

Hands on Stomach

Visceral Manipulation

Visceral manipulation is a hands-on therapeutic technique using light touch to  assess and treat restrictions in the movement of organs and surrounding tissues.

By addressing restrictions and improving the mobility of organs, visceral manipulation can help alleviate various types of pain, particularly in the abdomen, back, and pelvis.

The therapy may enhance the functioning of the organs, which can lead to better digestion, circulation, and overall health.

About

Dr. Rebecca Biland

            Physical Therapist, DPT

Dr. Rebecca Biland is the founder of Essential Foundations Pelvic Physical Therapy. She completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University and then Rebecca enrolled in the University of Delaware where she completed their Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program in 2010. She started her career treating sports injuries and orthopedic conditions in outpatient clinics at JFK Medical Center and at Atlantic Health Sports Physical Therapy. While working with these populations, she became increasingly aware of an underserved pelvic pain patient population and was compelled to pursue continuing education in pelvic floor rehabilitation.

In 2012, she developed and launched a Pelvic Physical Therapy program at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ, expanding the scope of their outpatient services. A year later she had her first daughter and through personal experience with pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum recovery her commitment and passion to advocate for women's health grew.  Rebecca founded Essential Foundations Pelvic Physical Therapy with a mission to empower women's ability to grow their knowledge and to restore their wellness by seeking treatment for pervasive and undertreated conditions such as pelvic pain, incontinence and other postpartum issues.

By offering a fee for service pelvic physical therapy program Dr. Biland is able to give the one on one personalized care for patients without restrictions of an insurance based health care system, greatly improving the quality of care and increasing her ability to partner with her patients to achieve their personal goals.

When Rebecca is not working, her two young daughters keep her busy. As a firm believer in balanced living Rebecca loves practicing yoga, meditation, running and HIIT training as well as laying on the couch reading a good book or binge watching a Scifi tv show.
